As Bronx residents honored the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country, many people's minds drifted to those serving in Iraq.

On Memorial Day, friends, family and veterans gathered at the grave of Walter Fufido. Fufido, a Marine, fought and died at Iwo Jima during World War II.

Veterans organizations like AMVETS and the Ladies Auxiliary led several remembrances throughout the day similar to the one for Fufido.

With politicians on both sides of the aisle sticking close to their professed points of view, residents discussed the conflict with similar tones. Some want to withdraw American troops quickly, while others feel the Iraqi government isn't ready to stand on its own.

Regardless of one's stance, all showed their support for the troops. Almost 3,500 men and women in the U.S. military have been killed since the war began in March 2003.
