A Bronxville business owner is digging into his own pockets to make sure he made it through the pandemic without laying off workers.

Continental 109 is one of the longest running businesses in Bronxville. Owner Nick DeVincenzo is celebrating 60 years in business and in that time, he has seen generations of families coming to get their hair done there.

DeVincenzo says his staff of 35 people are like family. He says he's witnessed generations of employees working for him, including Maria Agosto.

Agosto has been working there for 30 years, and now her daughter works there, too.

When the pandemic hit, the business -- like so many others -- had to shut its doors for three months.

DeVincenzo made sure the salon was ready to pivot when all the safety protocols were in place.

He applied for PPP loans, and even used up what was left in his savings account to just to avoid laying off his employees.

"Through the 60 years I was able to save money in case of anything and that's what made us get through this," he says.

He says his clients and employees have always been a priority – and many say his love and dedication for his business will never go "out of style."
