With students back in the classroom, Carmel police are once again enforcing school zone speed limits to help keep children safe.

News 12 rode along with officers as they monitored traffic near Mahopac High School, one of several school zones where speeding has been a concern.

During the patrol, Officer DeSantola stopped a driver traveling 47 mph in a 30 mph school zone.

Police say school zone violations remain relatively rare thanks to increased enforcement.

School and police officials are reminding motorists to slow down, stay alert and allow extra travel time during the busy back-to-school season.
