The atmospheric setup for tonight favors colder-than-normal temperatures for this time of year. Many spots in central and southern New Jersey have not yet had their first frost. Clear skies and lighter winds will allow temperatures to fall fast tonight, so let the car warm up a little longer and be prepared for the elements when waiting for the bus or train getting you to work or school.
Fair weather continues to nose in from the Midwest. New Jersey will continue to remain drier than normal for the next 5-6 days. Temperatures will also be a few degrees cooler than normal.
The forecast in the longer range remains "cloudy.” Tropical Storm Melissa has formed in the Caribbean. It doesn't move that much over the next few days. This inundates Jamaica and the Cayman Islands with catastrophic rainfall.
Most model data has Melissa developing into a hurricane and moving north into the Atlantic. I don't think the storm will have a direct impact on the East Coast. However, there could be some interaction with a possible storm moving across the mainland U.S that would influence the weather here in the Garden State for Thursday or Friday.
It would obviously have a possibly significant impact on trick-or-treaters this Halloween. Stay tuned to the Storm Watch weather team over the coming days to see how this possible dubious weather system evolves.
