A group of small business leaders joined Assemblyman Greg Ball in Somers Thursday to protest the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's payroll tax.
The tax was imposed on small businesses last June to fill the MTA's $1.2 billion budget gap. The state later changed the budget estimate, bringing the shortfall to $343 million.
Ball has called on businesses to withhold their payments of the payroll tax in escrow to make a statement.
"That golden goose that they continue to squeeze is done laying eggs," he says.
The MTA's balanced budget is due before its finance committee Monday. The MTA board is set to vote on the budget Wednesday.
