The case of the teen charged in a car crash that killed a veteran Yonkers police officer has moved from the youth part of criminal court to family court, according to the attorney for the 17-year-old.
Friday marks one year that Sgt. Frank Gualdino was killed when a car driven by the teen crossed a double yellow line on Tuckahoe Road and crashed into Gualdino's car and a Bee-Line bus.
The teen was indicted last month on criminally negligent homicide.
It is not known what charges the teen will face in family court, which will be prosecuted by the county attorney and any outcome will be sealed.
The teen's attorney said his client should never have been indicted and called the crash a tragic accident.
The Yonkers Police Department hopes that despite the change in venue, appropriate justice will be delivered for all involved.
The District Attorney's Office did not have any immediate comment.
After his death, Gualdino was posthumously promoted to detective.
