More than 100 pairs of empty combat boots are on display in front of the Chappaqua train station Monday. Each pair represents a solider from New York killed while fighting in Iraq. The exhibition, called Eyes Wide Open, is designed to encourage people to open their eyes to the financial and human costs of war. Those involved with the project say they are not making an anti-war statement, but rather encouraging the local community to think about how the war abroad affects people in at home. Along with the boots, there are also hundreds of pairs of shoes, representing the Iraqi men, women, and children who have died during the war. The exhibition will be on display until dusk Monday.
