The City of Newburgh is getting ready to begin work replacing its aging sewer system. 

The $32 million project along Colden Street will replace 8,700 linear feet of underground pipes.

The project is funded by federal and state grants, along with interest-free financing from the state.

Federal, state and local officials say the project is a crucial upgrade for the city's system that will also reduce emergency overflow during storms into the Hudson River.

Construction is scheduled to begin in April and will be completed in the spring of 2024.
City officials say residents should expect detours during construction work.
