Clarkstown police are hoping surveillance cameras will help reduce crime in commuter parking lots.
Clarkstown council members and the town supervisor applied for grant money to supply the cameras, which will feed video 24 hours a day to the police department. A total of 12 cameras will be installed at the Nanuet train station and the two lots on Route 59 for bus commuters. Police say there haven?t been any violent crimes committed in these lots but there has been criminal mischief, including vandalism to cars.
The cameras are expected to be installed in the next couple of months. Police officials hope to have them up and running by May of 2006.
