Playland Park in Rye opened for the 2025 season since May, but some social media users are warning others not to go it.

Westchester County took over operations at the amusement months ago, according to 1st Deputy Westchester County Parks Commissioner Peter Tartaglia.

"We had a partner, and they left the operations earlier this year, which didn't give us a lot of time to get ready," Tartaglia says.

County officials are navigating a legal dispute with the park's former operator.

While emergency repairs are underway, some rides remain closed.

The circumstances have some TikTokers questioning whether the park is worth visiting right now.

"Whatever y'all do, do not go to Rye Playland," says TikTok user @bayla.B_

County officials say that of the approximately 40 rides at the park, about 20 are currently open.

They expect more to become available as the season continues.

"We were left with not much, so we're recreating here," Tartaglia says. "When we get to the point of a ride being ready to operate, then we go to the New York State Department of Labor, who has to come and inspect ,and give us our permit for each ride."

Other TikToks suggest that the park is a ghost town right now, but Tartaglia says those posts are deceptive.

"We have had about 65,000 people going through that amusement park. We just opened on Memorial Day weekend. It was free that weekend. We're charging you $15," Tartaglia says.

While some visitors have voiced frustration, other people are remembering the good times that they had at the park in the past.

"I still look at the dragon coaster very wistfully. I rode that thing hundreds of times," says White Plains resident Alan Dechiario

The park's former operator, Standard Amusements, says they "significantly improved the park" and are calling on the county to "stop attempting to spin the public."
