The West Point Army cadet accused of raping two former cadets testified in his own defense during court-martial proceedings Wednesday.
Lonnie Story, 22, is accused of raping two former female cadets in two separate incidents in 2005. Story testified that the sex was consensual with both women before the five-person panel. The government called Story a ?man who capitalizes on opportunity? during its closing arguments. The defense attacked the credibility of the alleged victims.
Deliberations are now underway. The panel only needs four guilty votes to convict Story of rape. They also are considering lesser charges of attempted rape and indecent assault. If convicted, Story faces expulsion from the military academy and a possible life sentence.
