The crane came crashing down across the intersection of Acres Road and Bakertown Road in Orange County, crushing a van just steps from a multifamily building and residential homes.
“It was vibrating the whole building,” said a woman nearby, describing the moments before the collapse.
The incident happened at a construction site across the street from a multifamily building – feet away from where the collapsed crane came to a rest. While residents didn’t want to appear on camera, several spoke to News 12 about the terrifying incident.
“I came out to see and saw the crane was on the floor,” said one woman.
“There’s constantly construction everywhere—and I’ve never seen this before," said another resident.
State police, fire crews and Hatzolah emergency responders rushed to the scene. Authorities say at least one person was treated for a minor injury.
No one was trapped under the wreckage, according to police.
The crane is owned by US Crane & Rigging LLC, a company based in the Bronx.
News 12 has reached out to the company and is awaiting a response.
State police are leading the investigation into what caused the crane to fall. Officials say it will be an “extensive” effort to remove the equipment and reopen the intersection.
