Local nonprofit Croton Caring Committee is partnering with the Croton Police Department for the second year in a row to hold a toy drive.
"This is our second year. Our first year, which was last year, we had it during COVID. It was outside and it was a very successful event," said Sgt. Marc Leuzzi.
Last year, the drive received more than 500 toys to distribute to the community.
This year, 110 kids were in need of Christmas presents - a bigger demand than before. Organizers are hoping to top last year's numbers of toy donations.
This way, it helps ensure that every child receives a gift for the holiday.
It also teaches children to give back following a year where so much was taken away from them.
"I hope that it changes how they feel about the police department and this community," said Leuzzi.
Organizers will still be accepting unwrapped, new toys for all ages.
Anyone willing to contribute to the toy drive can drop them off at the Croton Police Department anytime before Christmas.
