State officials are turning to the public for help in deciding the future of the Tappan Zee Bridge and expect an official announcement to be made in May.
Transit authorities have been looking at six options regarding the bridge's future for the past year. A decision must first be reached on what method of transit will be utilized on the bridge.
After the decision is made whether to use the Tappan Zee for trains, buses or a combination of both, officials will decide whether the 52-year-old, seven-lane bridge needs to be repaired or replaced.
Officials are encouraging commuters for their input in the decision. Meetings for public participation are being planned for February in Orange, Rockland and Westchester counties.
