Go ahead and go out there towards Lisa La Rocco who's been doing an awesome job covering the storm all across the Hudson River, Hudson Valley, I should say. Lisa, how are the Christians out there by you in Westchester County? Oh, well, conditions here, we're in West Harrison right now. We kind of did a detour off the roads. Roads are still snow covered, definitely treacherous driving when you head out, but right now we took a detour here. We're right by where Wegman's is, if you know that area, corporate Park Drive. Weather caused some problems in this apartment building, the Carraway apartment building. Up on the top floor near up by the ceiling, the fire chief is telling me one of the sprinkler pipes burst, so they have the fire sprinkler systems in these buildings, and one of them burst, and so they've had to shut that down, and that's affecting a lot of the apartment apartments here and also having to shut. Power off as well. Just an awful time for that to happen for these folks unfortunately. So fire is here. They're waiting for the building department to come to kind of check things out and see what they can decide what to do next. It's not like everything's being flooded. Nothing's coming out here. It's just one from what I understand, pipes, sprinklers. Pipe, but it is affecting a lot of apartments again because they have to shut power down as well, and they said it's definitely weather related because that pipe was up by the roof by the top. So in the meantime though, still, if you are heading out, you have to be extra, extra careful. Let's check in with Lauren. She's in Hastings. Lauren, how's it look in Bayou? It's looking a little bit better, I must say. They've had trucks, salting trucks going up and down and plows going up and down maybe every 10 minutes, 5 minutes. We've seen so many. There's also two delis open right now, so a lot of these first responders and people that have to come out amidst the snow have been out running into the deli, getting their food and coffee for the day. But over here in the village, it is completely. Completely a blanket of snow right next to me if you could see the snow is just up to my thigh, and I'm about 5 ft, so that's pretty high on me, about halfway up, um, but it is a big, big, big scene over here, a lot of snow. I'm going to step out so you can see a little bit better. For those of you who are wishing for a snow day, your wish has been granted over here. The Hastings School District is closed for the entirety. Of the day. That means if you or your kiddos are stuck going stir crazy from being inside all day, throw on some snow pants and get outside. Now it might be bad driving conditions, but it is perfect for sledding. And speaking of driving conditions, my drive into the station going southbound on both the sprain and the sawmill was quite the journey. Now earlier. Both lines on the spray in and the sawmill were completely covered the road line, so it was very difficult driving in. I could actually feel the traction on my tires kind of swerving around, so it was a little scary even going 2025 MPH. Uh, just take it slow if you are having to step out today. Make sure to throw on those hazards and have your lights on, seatbelt on, as always. Drive slow and safe. We're in Hastings on Hudson, Westchester County, Lauren Del Val, News 12.

Our continuing coverage of the storm, we're turning to Orange County. Joining us right now is county executive Steve Newhouse. Let's get started with the biggest area of concerns for your community this morning, and we've got to talk about those snow totals. How much did you get? So, uh, good morning. It's always great to see you. Um, we did very well here in Orange County. The roads have been, uh, plowed, and, you know, I've been, I rode on a bunch of them early this morning. Um, but we obviously want people to stay off the roads, state of emergencies in multiple jurisdictions, including Orange County, New York State, a lot of the towns and villages, mainly now, so we can have our DPW crews, uh, continue to clean up those roads. There's gonna be snow drifts. There's been some freezing, but not as bad as we thought it would be. Orange County was very well prepared for this. We didn't have any salt shortages, so we've been investing heavily in new plow trucks over the last 4 years. So we have almost a brand new fleet combined with a, you know, full barns filled with salt. So we were able to, you know, really weather this without any issues, no pun intended. Our biggest. accumulations that we heard reported into here was 20 inches in Greenville. Wow, that is a lot. 20 inches of snow. Don't hear that very often. All right, let's talk about us navigating through the rest of the day and what you are going to be doing and what you're going to be asking your crews to be doing because we know some of them have been working 24/7. Well, many people are still, um, have, have, have no, their work's canceled. Their kids are, every school in the county is, uh, canceled, so every parent has to be home with their kids. So, uh, I talked to the West Point general yesterday. He closed the majority of West Point operations. I closed the majority of Orange County besides like. Some of the essential things that you need here. So there's really not a lot of reason to go to work, but I, I am concerned about those, uh, you know, we had nurses that we had to make sure get to our two main hospitals in Orange County last night. Those are the ones that I'm prioritizing for the road. And I'll just give you a hypothetical. What if somebody has a major cardiac event? Um, and, and you need to get them to a, uh, level one hospital, and you, you have blackout condition or, you know, uh, snow drifts, and you have a blizzard, you can't get a, uh, staff light in there. So these are the type of things that we try to mitigate here, uh, to make sure that we keep the essential people, um, able to get to work and make sure if somebody needs. Extra help whether it be taking them to a transport to a higher level hospital or to get people to work, we're going to make sure it happens. All right. A lot of navigating to do today. Joining us right now is the mayor of Mount Vernon, Sean Patterson Howard. Uh, Ms. Howard, you just came in from being out in the conditions, very busy already this morning. Talk to us about what you're most concerned about this morning. Um, you know, my greatest concern is that there's still a thin layer of snow down. Our DPW crews have been out all night. I was with them from about 10:00 p.m. to 5 a.m. They're everywhere. Uh, we just want people to be cautious as they're moving throughout the city. Uh, make sure that you're not plowing more and more snow into the streets. Uh, make sure that when you are shoveling your home that you. Taking it easy. The snow is heavier today than it was yesterday because of the thin layer of ice and, you know, light precipitation, and we don't want anyone to have a heart attack. Um, and we want our kids to have fun. They're off from school today, so have fun, and we want to really, really thank our DPW workers and all of our essential workers who have been working hard throughout these last 24 hours. Clear the streets, um, to go and take care of people in their homes, to get our unhoused off the streets. It's been a big job, but my team is amazing and I'm really grateful for them. Update from Governor Kathy Hochul. She has now confirmed that the MTA is operating on a weekend schedule today, so be sure to check the train time app for the very latest updates on services. All New Jersey Transit lines, including the Port Jervis and Pascack Valley lines, are still suspended today, but please make sure you check that out because the trains could also be slowed down because of the icy and snowy conditions currently on the tracks.

And because of incidents like we just showed you and the conditions currently, Duchess County remains under a state of emergency this morning, and this is what you need to know about travel restrictions. Traveling on county roads is now banned until Monday afternoon. That's at 5 p.m. County leaders say the only exceptions here are for emergency vehicles and essential personnel. Public transit in the county also canceled today, and county offices are closed so people can do what they need to do and dig out their vehicles and their sidewalks and driveways this morning. Orange County's state of emergency does remain in effect as well this morning. You're prohibited from county roadways unless you're deemed essential personnel. Now, if you work for the county, don't go in unless you're deemed essential. I'm sure you're going to be getting an email or a text from your boss to let you know.

Of that, please send them in. We also want to show you this a very close call on the roads during the height of the storm here on the Taconic State Parkway. Just terrible driving conditions. A New York State trooper on Sunday's vehicle was stuck while that trooper was helping a disabled motorist in Duchess County. Thankfully no one was hurt, but officials do tell us things could have been much, much worse.

And now to what you need to know to get around. We saw Lisa La Rocca with all of the road problems there. Beeline buses and power transit service in Westchester are going back into service today. However, this is what you need to know. County leaders say you can now start using the services again, but it's not going to be until 10 o'clock this morning. You may remember they were suspended yesterday evening due to the road conditions. We told you about that first here on News 12.

All right, Anderson, thank you. And there are still very dangerous conditions in Ramapo. Let's get right to the police chief Daniel Hymen. Thank you so much for being with us. Talk to us about what you're seeing. You were up bright and early and as you can see from outside your cruiser window, it's still snowing. Good morning. Yes, Lisa, we're, we're on, um, I'm right in front of, um, Ermont Road right now, and you can see it's covered with snow. Um, that's how most of the roads are right now in Ramapo. The highway workers have been out there all night long. Uh, they gave them a couple of hours of sleep in the middle of the night, but they were on call and we did have to call them for a vehicle fire where water was used by the fire department. But right now we're seeing a very slippery conditions. Uh, the snow is falling again, so I don't know when this is going to stop. But um we really are asking people to stay off the roadways and keep their cars off the streets. That's causing a problem for the plow trucks. All right, what is your biggest challenge, do you think for the rest of the day as you navigate your cruise and try and keep people safe? Right now, it's just keeping people off the roadways so that the highway department can salt the roadways and get them cleared. Um, there's a lot of plow trucks out there. Uh, we're, we're actually seeing one of our own plow trucks caught on fire, and they replaced that immediately to get that route, um, that route covered, um, right after he, uh, that vehicle got towed. Um, you know, we're seeing, we always see a, a slight decrease in calls for service. We're down about 15%, but it takes a lot longer for officers to get to the scenes, and also we're on the scene a lot longer. So, um, if people stay off the roadways, it doesn't waste our resources, and we're able to do other things, because, you know, Lisa, we're still getting calls, like our medical calls and people in, in crisis, and, um, you, you know, all the regular calls that come in during a normal tour of duty, they're still happening. So we have to get to those. All right, Chief Hyman, we appreciate you waking up so early with us and giving us such important information for people living in Ramapo.
