A letter from the North Rockland Central School district sent to families this week explained that a school employee has been placed on administrative leave for alleged "unlawful activity," and police are looking into it.
Also in the letter, North Rockland's Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kris Felicello stated the district launched an investigation and took steps to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
He also stated he will be providing more information to everyone in the coming days.
At this time, there's no word on what happened, when it happened, who the employee is and whether students were involved.
The district has nine schools, about 8,000 students as well as hundreds of teachers and staff.
A law enforcement source say the incident happened within Orangetown. The police department there says the matter is under investigation.
The New York State Education Department says it cannot confirm or deny any investigations.
