News 12 spoke with a doctor about the benefits of getting a flu shot.
Dr. Eric Applebaum says everyone should get a flu vaccine every year. He says it is even more important for the elderly and those with weak immune systems to do so.
Other than the typical intramuscular injection, there is also a nasal spray, which can be an especially good choice for kids. The drawback, however, is that this type of vaccine can cause a bit more of a reaction.
No matter which method you choose, pediatricians say you need to vaccinate your child, especially with enterovirus D-68 on the scene this season. They say more than 2,000 New Yorkers die of seasonal flu and pneumonia every year.
