Dozens of people showed up to give a final farewell to a veteran who had no family able to be at his graveside in Rockland County.
Army veteran George Kenneth Erskine was laid to rest Tuesday at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery .
A crowd of people who never knew him attended his service to make sure he wasn't buried alone after hearing he had no family nearby.
The 77-year-old died earlier this month at a health care facility in New Jersey.
Erskine was from Norwalk, Connecticut, and served in the Army from 1965 to 1967 as part of a transportation company. He also spent one year in Europe.
The Higgins funeral home in New City donated everything for the burial service.
"It's very rare in this industry that you can give back to somebody like George, who gave his all when needed. So there's nothing we wouldn't do for the Rockland County veterans at any time," says Joe Damonti, from the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home.
