Dozens of protestors gathered on the streets of Nyack Thursday to blast President Bush?s plan to increase U.S. troop levels in Iraq.The president unveiled plans Wednesday to send an additional 20,000 troops to Iraq. Members of the Rockland Coalition for Peace and Justice wasted no time organizing a protest on Main Street. Lee Sneeden has been a member of the group for four years and says the troops should be coming home, not going to Iraq. Sneeden says he believes the U.S. needs to get the troops out as quickly as possible. Many in the group say they are hoping the Democratic Congress will work to oppose deeper involvement in Iraq. The group says it will take its message to Washington on January 27, when members plan to meet with others at a larger anti-war protest. Senator Thomas Morahan (R-NY) also weighed in on Bush?s controversial plan. He says he?s glad Bush is initiating a change, but has questions about its effectiveness.
