A Central Islip woman has been arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated after crashing her vehicle through the front of a house.
Suffolk police say Estefany DeJesus was driving a 2022 BMW SUV southbound on Birchgrove Drive when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a house on Nostrand Avenue just after 2 a.m.
“I heard like something exploding, and I came up and my mom was yelling,” said Selina Moreno who lives in the house. “I thank God that we are alive, and we didn't get hurt.”
Family members say 13 people live in the house. No one got hurt, but three of the family members had to be rescued through a window.
“I was just in shock and I was scared,” Johana Moreno said. “I didn't know what to do, and I started crying. Then the firefighters came and they rescued me, my mom and my dad and my dog.”
Selina Moreno says the car went through the outer wall and into the living room and kitchen area of the home. She says inspectors told her the structure of the building was impacted, and they’ll have to find somewhere else to stay until it can be repaired.
Officers who arrived on scene determined DeJesus was impaired and she was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for evaluation.
DeJesus is charged with driving while intoxicated and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.
