Red Hook composer and artist Raven Chacon is among 20 winners of this year's MacArthur Fellowships, also known as Genius Grants.
Chacon was honored for his boundary-crossing works in visual art and performance, which illuminate landscapes, their inhabitants and histories.
The award includes an $800,000 stipend paid out over five years. Recipients have the freedom to use the money as they see fit.
