Health care workers in Dutchess County picketed outside Vassar Brothers Medical Center Wednesday.

Dozens of picketers called on Nuvance Health System to address staffing shortages. They're demanding a contract agreement for employees with the health care workers union.

While picketers wouldn't comment on what exactly the union is looking for in the new contract, a person News 12 spoke to did not mince words about the situation.

"We want to bring back Vassar. We want people who work for Vassar to enjoy working here. We want people who don't work here to want to work here. And that's one of the biggest problems. We're short-staffed because people don't want to come to work here because they know the reputation since Nuvance took over. So, we're trying to change that," says Albert Bruno, an employee at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Nuvance Health told News 12, "We are committed to our entire staff and the excellent care our teams provide to our patients. As we continue to negotiate a new contract in good faith, we are confident we will achieve a positive long-term solution for all, which will address 11-99's position and the community's needs."
