An East Ramapo teacher has started a scholarship fund in memory of a murdered student. Erica Regalbuto says she was inspired by her former student, Karesse Ebron, who was murdered last summer. Sixteen-year-old Ebron was allegedly beaten to death by 22-year-old Ryan Ross. The family searched two weeks for Ebron before Ross allegedly led police to her body. Regalbuto and her young daughters helped in that search. The Karesse Ebron Scholarship Fund will award $500 to a special education student who wants to continue his or her education. Regalbuto says Ebron was an inspiration in her life, and hopefully the scholarship will inspire others with learning problems. The first Karesse Ebron Scholarship winner will be recognized at Ramapo High School's graduation this year. Ebron's accused killer is awaiting trial.
