A woman was killed early this morning in a hit-and-run in Yonkers, according to authorities.

The woman was struck by a car just before 5 a.m. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, leaving the victim behind.

First responders rushed to the scene to render aid to the injured woman, but she died due to her injuries. The victim's identity has not been disclosed pending notification of her family.

The investigation into the hit-and-run closed a section of Buena Vista Avenue for several hours this morning. Part of the street, including the area in front of the post office, was cordoned off to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Buena Vista Avenue has since been reopened to traffic.

Police are hopeful that surveillance cameras in the area will provide crucial leads in tracking down the driver responsible for the crash.
