More than a 100 people packed Mount Pleasant Town Hall Wednesday for a News 12 town meeting concerning the homeless. Emotions ran high about the issue of where and how the homeless population will be cared for.

The county plans to open a new homeless shelter in Valhalla in December. Many at the meeting were sensitive to the issue of helping the homeless. However, tempers flared when the topic turned to the fact that there are sexual predators in the midst of the homeless population.

The talk of the meeting turned to convicted sex offender Phillip Grant, who admitted killing Connie Russo Carriero in the Galleria Mall parking garage in White Plains in June. Grant had spent nights at the county-run shelter near the airport. The social services commissioner said in the Grant case the criminal justice system let everyone down.
