The disbarred Chappaqua lawyer accused of killing his wife was found guilty Saturday of second-degree murder.
Carlos Perez-Olivo now faces 25 years in prison after the jury ruled that he shot and killed his wife two years ago. The defense had claimed that Perez-Olivo and his wife, Peggy Perez-Olivo, were ambushed by a masked gunman on Route 100 in Millwood in November 2006.
The defense maintained that the gunman had shot Perez-Olivo in the abdomen and his wife in the head. Prosecutors countered by arguing that the ex-lawyer had just $300 in his bank account when he shot his wife of 30 years to collect her nearly $900,000 life insurance policy.
The jury ultimately concluded that there was enough ballistic and forensic evidence presented by the prosecution to convict Perez-Olivo. One juror told News 12 Hudson Valley there were too many holes in the version of the events presented by Perez-Olivo and his defense team.
