Ex-state trooper gets 2 1/2 to 7 1/2 years in prison in fatal car chase

A former state trooper has been sentenced to 2 1/2 to 7 1/2 years in prison for a fatal 2020 car chase in Ulster County that killed an 11-year-old Brooklyn girl.
Christopher Baldner, 47, was sentenced in the county court in Kingston after a hearing that lasted over four hours.
He had been convicted of manslaughter in his second trial.
Baldner's first trial ended in an acquittal of murder and reckless endangerment, but the jury was deadlocked on manslaughter.
Baldner had originally stopped the car driven by Tristan Goods on the State Thruway for speeding.
The two men argued and the trooper pepper-sprayed inside the vehicle.
Goods drove off and Baldner pursued. Prosecutors say Baldner rammed the SUV twice, causing it to lose control and flip over.
Monica Goods was killed. Baldner retired from the force in 2022 after 20 years on the job.
