Extra police patrols will be stationed at the Westlake High School campus as well as the Columbus and Hawthorne elementary schools Tuesday.

According to Mount Pleasant police officials, the school's district office received a threatening phone call just after dismissal Monday afternoon. Police aren't giving any details about what was threatened, but Westlake middle and high school went into lockout mode while police investigated. Eventually they determined it was a swatting incident, which is a false report designed to trigger an emergency response. Once police found there was no threat the lockout was lifted. As a precaution the campus was cleared, and all after-school activities were canceled.

Parents were eventually able to pick up their children at the main office. District officials and police are now working to determine the source of the call. School administrators say the extra police presence is being done out of an abundance of caution and to make everyone feel safe.
