One of the Hudson Valley's oldest war heroes was laid to rest in Sleepy Hollow Wednesday.
Family, friends, veterans and elected officials packed the Immaculate Conception Church on North Broadway, to bid a final farewell to Armando "Chick" Galella.
It's the same location services had been held for Galella the past two days.
The 100-year-old Pearl Harbor survivor died last week.
The Bronze Star recipient was a 20-year-old Army enlistee stationed at Hickam Air Base in Hawaii when the Japanese attacked on Dec. 7, 1941.
When the war was over, he came home to his beloved North Tarrytown - now called Sleepy Hollow.
He spent the rest of his life working tirelessly to support military families and getting a memorial built for a friend who died in the Pearl Harbor attack.
A humble hero, Chick didn't seek recognition for the work he did helping his community.  “Chick was the type of man who would, literally, get bread and tell you to take it home to your parents. It was rough times in those days. And he would say 'Michael, don't say anything to anybody, but just bring this home,'" says friend Michael Blalock.
