A Garnerville mother who showed resilience and grace after her daughter was strangled has become an inspiration to many around her.
Donna Higdon lost her daughter Shannon two months ago. She would have turned 30 this Wednesday, but her life was cut short, allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend Nixon Bourgignon.
Higdon says the act was completely out of character for Bourgignon, who has been charged with second-degree murder. He is being evaluated at New York Central Psychiatric Center before heading to court.
Higdon says her faith gave her a peace beyond understanding.
The mother held a celebration in honor of her daughter's birthday on Friday, which also served as a fundraiser for scholarships for her two boys.
Another fundraiser will be held sometime in the future.
