Gasoline demands are spiking in several states along the East Coast after a pipeline hack.

While there hasn’t been a shortage in the Hudson Valley, gas prices are on the rise.

Last Friday, a cyberattack forced the Colonial pipeline to shut down four lines. The 5,500 mile pipeline supplies about 45% of all fuel used on the East Coast This has led to panic buying in some states like Virginia, the Carolinas, Florida, and Georgia. And as a result gas stations are running out of fuel.

AAA says the average price for a gallon of gas in Westchester is $3.17, while nationally it's $2.98. That's up six cents over a week marking the most expensive national average since November 2014.

 In Putnam and Dutchess, it is $3.04 - close to the state average of $3.02.

While most people we spoke with aren't thrilled with the spike in prices, they're not overly worried...at least not yet. "We've got plenty of gas stations, we've got enough - I think so there's nothing to worry about," says Gill Archer, of Yonkers.

The good news is Colonial may be making a decision about a full restart as soon as today but it could take a few days for everything to level out.
