It was a pivotal moment for Westchester County Executive George Latimer to deliver his annual State of the County address.

It comes under the looming Democratic primary in June against Rep. Jamaal Bowman for the 16th Congressional District.

Outside the County Office Building in White Plains, protesters rallied to say that “George Latimer failed the people” in areas like affordable housing, police accountability, racial justice and the Israel-Hamas war.

But inside the legislative chambers, The county executive focused his seventh annual address on key accomplishments, progress and inclusivity.

“The current state of our county is characterized by a sense of newness and vitality,” Latimer said. “We proudly embody the essence of ‘new faces,’ individuals who bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the forefront.“

Financial stability was a key topic, in which Latimer said this year’s $2.4 billion county budget avoided a tax levy increase for the fifth consecutive year.

In sustainability, he touted extensive investments and passed several environmental laws.

Large portions of Latimer’s address aimed at enhancements in public service, expanding job opportunities and programs.

This involves many areas like food insecurity, affordable housing, child care, mental health and infrastructure.

In fact, at the podium, Latimer gave the green light to improve the Glen Island Bridge.

It’s a major connector to one of the largest parks in the county.

He signed the $52.8 million Glen Island Bridge Construction Bond into law, which passed earlier this month.
