Energy efficient LED bulbs will soon light the streets in the town of Ramapo
The NY Power Authority and the town are installing them as part of the state's "Smart Street Lightning" program.
New York has replaced hundreds of thousands of its streetlights with LED fixtures.
Ramapo plans to add more than 1,000 new fixtures in underlit areas.
This project is expected to reduce the town's greenhouse gas emissions. The new energy efficient street lighting also aims to curb carbon emissions and save taxpayer dollars.
