Republican Paul Whalen, a businessman from Rockland, was elected Orangetown supervisor Tuesday.
The position was vacated by incumbent Orangetown Supervisor Thom Kleiner, who ran for Rockland County executive.
Whalen faced off against Democrat Suzanne Barclay, Kleiner's executive assistant for eight years.
Whalen, who serves as chairman of the Orangetown Senior Housing Authority, says his experience balancing a company budget and his pursuit of a career in public service will help him as supervisor.
