Gov. Andrew Cuomo stopped by a historic Mount Vernon church Monday to make an announcement about the state's rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine.

He kicked off the "Roll Up Your Sleeve" campaign at Grace Baptist Church.

"What we're asking is for faith-based facilities across the state to partner with local health organizations..." said Cuomo. "And make houses of worship the faith-based facilities vaccination sites."

Grace Baptist Church will serve as a pop-up vaccination site starting Tuesday.

Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard says her city has been hit hard by COVID-19. She says she welcomes the use of houses of worship as vaccination sites.

"We've already created waiting lists... and people will be called, over the next few days to let them know, that there is another pop-up site... There is an option available to them... and encourage them to come in," she said.

Cuomo's briefing inside the church was closed to the press.

News 12 was told that over the next few days, about 350 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be available each day at Grace Baptist Church.

Gov. Cuomo also announced that New Yorkers ages 50 and up will be eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine starting on Tuesday.
