Gov. Cuomo says new strain of COVID-19 found in UK 'very concerning,' calls for restrictions
With Moderna's vaccine being administered in New York Monday night, there is also a "very concerning" new strain of COVID-19 in Great Britain.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo demanded the federal government either mandate testing or halt flights from the U.K. after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that the country has discovered a new COVID-19 strain that is 70% more contagious than the original.
He asked several airlines to require COVID-19 testing before the flights leave for the U.K. to the state.
Both Delta and British Airways have agreed to do so.
Cuomo says 346,200 doses of Moderna's vaccine will arrive in the state next week, along with 120,000 more doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
