Gov. Kathy Hochul recently signed a law aiming to expand anti-bullying protections for private school students.

The Jack Ried Law is named after a 17-year-old who died by suicide after being bullied at his boarding school.

The law requires private schools to adopt policies and train staff on how to respond to bullying.

Hochul says every student deserves to feel safe in schools.

Ried’s parents say they hope the law will save lives and prevent other families from experiencing similar tragedies.
