Gov. Hochul speaks in Brooklyn on working with city officials to beat spread of omicron variant

Gov. Kathy Hochul was in Brooklyn Friday to announce that she is working with the city's administration to beat the spread of the omicron variant that has already reached the five boroughs.
This comes as the New Jersey Department of Health and Gov. Phil Murphy announced Friday that the state has its first confirmed case of the omicron variant.
While at the church in Brooklyn, Hochul said, "I just sat down with Mayor de Blasio to work in concert with him to fight this. I'm not scaring people. I'm just saying, if you are not boosted, run out and get that booster today because that's the extra suit of armor that you need around you, because we don't know enough about this."
Hochul said Thursday that the omicron variant of COVID-19 was in New York, stating that of the five confirmed cases of the new variant, four are located in NYC – one in Brooklyn, two in Queens, and another in an undisclosed borough. There is also one confirmed case on Long Island.
There are also two confirmed cases in California, one in Colorado, one in Minnesota and one in Hawaii. Nebraska also announced that it has six confirmed cases.
Hochul's executive order to limit elective surgeries at hospitals went into effect Friday and will be in place until Jan. 15.
Dr. Anthony Fauci says the CDC is actively studying the variant's impact on current vaccines, testing and treatment.
