Gov. Ned Lamont and members of the Indian American community celebrated a new state law on Tuesday that recognizes Diwali in Connecticut's statutes.
Diwali is the Indian festival of lights celebrated by over 1 billion people each year between October and November.
"I know what Diwali means to Hindu and Buddhist and Jain and Sikh and let me tell you what I think it means for Susan, me and the people in Connecticut as well, it's the triumph of light over darkness," said Gov. Lamont. "It's also our way of saying thank you for making Connecticut your home, we welcome you here."
