Gov. Ned Lamont signed legislation on Sunday to help boost Connecticut's economy through a partnership with the country of India.
The goal of the partnership is to drive investment and create joint ventures that will make both economies grow.
State Sen. Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox, who represents Bridgeport, Trumbull and Monroe, is leading the effort to establish the Connecticut-India Trade Commission to strengthen economic and trade ties.
"This is a huge opportunity, not only for Connecticut but for the entire tri-state area," Wilcox stated. "We will see new investments from India in our local economy, in areas like manufacturing, aerospace, education, law, finance, technology. This is a real opportunity for investment at the global level, coming back to our local economy."
Wilcox says the partnership is modeled after trade commissions Connecticut has with Puerto Rico and Ireland.
