A final farewell was given to a special veteran from Putnam Valley on Monday who didn’t have any family to mourn his death

Vietnam veteran Billy Freeman lived at the Putnam County Veterans Residence in Carmel until he died this month.

Residents and other veterans realized Freeman didn't have family to attend his funeral, so a group of veterans and even total strangers from the community knew they couldn't let his life or death go unnoticed.

Veterans say Freeman was an organ donor and his liver went on to save another life.
