A COVID-19 diagnosis can disrupt a family's life for a few weeks.
Caroline Poland, a licensed mental health counselor, says that one thing she encourages people to do is to create a quarantine plan before someone in the house gets sick.
This, she says, will help avoid the chaos a quarantine can create.
Below find some of the things you'll need if your family has to quarantine:

1. Connect to others

You should have a plan to connect with others while in quarantine. Because, Poland says, physical distancing should not mean social disconnection.

2. Food and water

Choose foods that don't need to be in the refrigerator and can stay good on the shelf for a long time. And pick comfort foods. Canned foods, soup, crackers, rice, dried beans, granola bars, peanut butter, cereal, fluids to stay hydrated and water are some examples. If you have a pet, stock up on what they need too.

3. Household and cleaning supplies

Don't forget hand soap, toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, toothpaste, dish soap, as well as cleaning supplies to regularly wipe down high-touch areas.

4. Medicines

Make sure prescriptions are filled and on hand. Get over-the-counter fever reducers. Get your doctor's advice on how to use them. Keep an thermometer at hand as well.

5. Masks

Masks can help stop the spread of COVID-19 at home. Indoors, anyone who is sick should wear a mask when around others to prevent spreading the virus. Other household members should wear a mask when around the sick person. Do not put masks on children under 2 years old.
