Bergen County Habitat for Humanity has been receiving many requests for children's desks as more students are learning virtually. To meet the demands, the organization created a program where volunteers build desks for those in need.
So far, 10 desks have been given to families and 10-12 new desks are expected to be produced and distributed each month.
A group of retired men, dubbed The Grey Heads, built the desks. The next 10 desks are going to students in Hackensack.
The goal of the program is to provide desks for all students who need one in the county.
Habitat for Humanity is asking for donors to help by providing donations in the form of cash, chairs or supplies.
The desks are free for the students. The program is expected to continue as long as there's a need.
