Six mayors from Haiti visited Ramapo Friday to not only learn more about government in the states, but about the American way of life.
The tour was the brainchild of Spring Valley Trustee Joseph Desmaret, who is from Haiti and wanted to help train the mayors on government management. The St. Lawrence Community Health and Sports Center was on a long list of stops for the visitors.
One mayor said he was very impressed with the waste management in Ramapo. He said Haiti is decades behind the U.S. in development and has a lot to learn. The mayors said they hope to bring home ideas and concepts of government functions they saw in Ramapo. With that, they said they hope to bring home a better way of life.
Engineers who helped build the Ramapo Waste Management Center will travel to Haiti at the end of August to help build one in that country.
