Happiness study ranks New York 23rd out of 50 states
New York ranked 23rd in WalletHub's 2022 Happiest States in America study.
Our neighboring states scored higher, with New Jersey and Connecticut in the top 10 of happiest states.
Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota, Utah and New Jersey were in the top five, while Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas, Louisiana and
West Virginia were ranked the most unhappy states.
WalletHub said it determined these ranks by comparing the 50 states across 30 key indicators of happiness. The data set ranges from the depression rate and the share of adults feeling productive to income growth and the unemployment rate.
Other interesting facts of the report include New Jersey having the fewest suicides, and Utah having the highest volunteer rate (two times higher than New York, the lowest). Utah also had the lowest separation and divorce rate. Hawaii had the lowest share of adult depression.
