There is a new focus in the fight against terror in the Hudson Valley and the rest of New York Thursday. The state is now keeping a closer watch on the use of commercial fertilizer since ammonium nitrate, which is a common chemical compound in fertilizer, can also be used to make bombs. New York has become the fourth state to pass regulations requiring fertilizer retailers to keep track of who is buying it and why. Charles Cohen, the owner of Sloatsburg Hardware, says he's on board when it comes to battling terrorism. Operation Safeguard now requires Cohen to track fertilizer sales for up to two years and provide protection against theft.
