Republican Nan Hayworth has defeated Rep. John Hall (D-N.Y.) in the race for the 19th Congressional District seat.
The two were projected at a near tie in almost every poll over the past several weeks.
With vote tallies still too close to call just before midnight, Hall addressed his supporters in Fishkill and conceded victory to Hayworth.
Hall says that after 10 non-consecutive years of public service, the only thing that he asks is for everyone else to donate 10 years of their lives to the public good as well. He was first elected to Congress in 2006.
The 19th District covers parts of Orange, Rockland, Westchester and Putnam counties.
