Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
Mount Vernon police say they arrested a man for slashing the throat of another resident. They say that on the evening of April 4, two Mount Vernon men were involved in an altercation that left one of them seriously injured. Police say that during the fight, 52-year-old Louis Kirkland was cut across his neck. He was rushed to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital where he was stabilized and then transferred to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for additional treatment. Police say detectives identified 35-year-old John Garner as the suspect. He was apprehended on April 9 and was arraigned on Monday. Garner's bail was set at $10,000 cash, $100,000 bond, $300,000 partially secured bond. Garner was transported to Westchester County Jail pending the posting of his bail. Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the MVPD Detective Division at 914-665-2510.
State police say one person was hospitalized after a shooting in Brewster. They say it happened at a home around 9 p.m. on Sunday. The victim is in stable condition and police have a suspect in custody. The shooting remains under investigation.
A Scarsdale man has been identified as the victim in a motorcycle accident. Westchester County police say David Douek, 41, was travelling northbound on the Hutchinson River Parkway around 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Police say his bike struck a guiderail in the vicinity of the New Rochelle Road exit. Douek was pronounced dead at the scene.
