A man convicted of killing a boy from Maybrook in 1996 has been denied parole, according to the state Corrections Department. Juan Miguel Peinado, 44, was convicted of killing 12-year-old Danny Meyer. Meyer was fatally stabbed soon after leaving his house for a Little League game. It was Peinado's first time up for parole, and village officials and residents had come out against his release. His next appearance is in two years.

A Putnam man could spend 20 years behind bars for killing his father and setting his home on fire. Louis Weber IV, 21, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and arson charges. Authorities say the fire happened in November 2019. Louis Weber III's was recovered from the fire. It was determined the fire was intentionally set.

Pet World in Yonkers has its doors closed and has had its license revoked. An investigation by multiple organizations, including the SPCA, led to the discovery of the poor conditions for the animals. The store sold a wide variety of animals including dogs, cats, tropical fish, rare birds, snakes, snails and turtles.
