Doctors in Westchester are warning county residents who may have come in contact with those infected by the coronavirus to stay at home.
Westchester County Health Commissioner Dr. Sherlita Amler says that by isolating themselves they are protecting "everyone they know."
Amler believes about 1,000 people have been asked to self-quarantine and expects that number to rise in the coming days and weeks. She admits the exercise may be frustrating, but says it's a necessary precaution.
"It's not forever--it's for a short period of time and perhaps we'll be able to stop the further spread of the infection," Amler says.

Health experts say those that are asked to self-quarantine should stay in the house with no visitors. If deliveries are dropped off, they should be left at the door and picked up when the person is gone.
If a person is self-quarantining with others they should consistently wash their hands, clean surfaces around them and stay 6 feet away from others. Those self-quarantining by themselves should avoid direct contact with anyone for 14 days.

Anyone self-quarantining is advised not to go to the hospital or emergency room if they fall ill. They are advised to call their physician and have them arrange care.
Those under self-quarantine in Westchester can call 866-588-0195 for more information.
